Happy New Year! 2018 brings First Baptist Church into an exciting new century. On Sunday we will begin rolling out a new visioning effort called: New Century, New Vision. To begin anew we will take a look at an old story. Not long after the ascension of Jesus the disciples gathered in Jerusalem. There were only 120 of them. What would become of them? Would they survive a year without him? If it was strictly a human story there is no way they would have made it. But there was something incredible that was about to happen. The Spirit of God was about to enable them to change history. Let’s think about that together when we meet for worship on Sunday.
As our visioning effort unfolds, the most important element of it will be our prayers for God’s wisdom and leadership. I hope you will begin praying now for our fellowship. A dozen years ago we began our visioning effort with prayer. God led us to develop a multi-purpose ministry center at 441 Clay Street which is touching a thousand people every year. We are “doing” the gospel on Church Circle and at 441 Clay Street. The final piece of our previous visioning effort was to build a new building. That building is now entering its second year of use. Soon it will be paid off. That is a phenomenal achievement due to your sacrifice and the prayers of those who began praying a dozen years ago. Please join me in praying for our fellowship every day. Join members of the New Century, New Vision Prayer Team on Wednesdays at 4:30 P. M. in the Chapel beginning on January 10.
Last year good friends gave me a calendar with some wonderful sayings enclosed. One seems especially timely: “If God thought about you as much as you think about Him, where would you be?”
Let’s think about God’s future for us when we meet on Sunday. I look forward to starting the New Year with you!
