Before moving into Advent we need to take a look back to a second memorable and outstanding Thanksgiving Dinner. So many people worked so hard to help those who might have had no place to go on Thanksgiving have a warm welcome in our Fellowship Hall. I would begin to list all of you, but there is no space here and I might leave someone out. So let me say “THANKS” to all of you for a great day for our church and our city. You are tremendous!
Now we move into Advent, a time of spiritual preparation for Christmas. Many of us didn’t grow up aware of Advent but since it became a part of who we are it has become a special time of getting spiritually ready for Christmas. This Advent we will focus on the words, “Fear not,” which so many of the characters of the Christmas narrative heard. This Sunday we will think of Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist. Our theme will be: “Don’t be afraid to keep praying.” Have you prayed for anything for decades only to have it come true very late in life? That’s what happened to Zechariah and Elizabeth. Let’s look at their lives together when we worship on Sunday.
Sunday afternoon we will have a great time for children of all ages as we enjoy a Jingle Jam in our Sanctuary. Cookie Greer has worked long and hard to get ready for a great celebration for our kids. I hope you will join us as we share the joy of Christmas in a child-like way.
Thanks for all you do in our community. The Thanksgiving Dinner was one more reminder of how our FBC family truly does “love God and love people.”
