Sunday was a tremendous experience in both worship services. The sight of our children and youth gathered at the altar of our Sanctuary was an inspiring one, wasn’t it? As I reflected on that high and holy moment my mind moved to the number of times that altar is the site of a life-changing moment for a person.
Many are brought to the altar the first time by their parents when they are dedicated to God. Some years later they may return to announce to the world that they want to be included among the followers of Jesus. They come back as high school seniors to be recognized before going to college some months later. Some will return to exchange vows before God with a partner for life. Then they may return to carry their own child(ren) to be dedicated.
How can one place be the site for so many life-changing moments? I believe it is because more than 90 years ago this Sanctuary was dedicated to the glory of God. I walk across that altar numerous times every week but this week I plan to stop and ponder all the powerful moments that have, and will, take place there.
I look forward to seeing you on Sunday as we gather around the Lord’s Table as we ponder “The Power of Memory.” I hope to see you then,
