Those of you who know me know that I am a frustrated (and frustrating) golfer! I love the game, but it has been a long time since it has loved me back! I love to watch people who play the game well because I know just how hard it is!
Our church has numerous great golfers, including William Nottingham, who plays for Clemson and won the prestigious North and South Amateur at Pinehurst a couple of years ago and Tony Green who just won the State Open in his age group. Those guys can play!
What I love about the people in our church who can really play the game great is that they actually enjoy helping others play well. All of the outstanding players in our church have given me good advice on how to be a better golfer. They have been nothing but encouraging, even though I have not always been the best student.
These great golfers are an inspiration to me. I think they are great examples of what we should be doing as people of faith. Those of you who are more mature and experienced in the faith have a chance to share your wisdom and experience with those who are new to the faith or have not yet discovered it for themselves. This week be on the lookout for someone who is trying to learn what it is to be a Christian. Your words of encouragement may change the trajectory of their lives!
I look forward to seeing you on Sunday when we talk about “The God of the Second Chance,”
