An Encouraging Word
We are now in the Christian season of Lent. Lent is a time of spiritual preparation that is intended to get us ready for the joy of Easter. But it is also a reminder of our need to be cleansed of those things that separate us from God. Many people “give up” something for Lent. I am doing that myself, although I am not advertising what I am “giving up” because then it seems to lose its potential spiritual power for me. Just suffice it to say that I am hoping to be closer to God this Easter than last Easter.
Throughout Lent and into Easter I want to talk with you about the “prayers of Jesus.” We are going to look at some of the most powerful prayers our Lord taught or prayed. Here is the preaching schedule from now through the end of April:
March 17 – April 28 – the prayers of Jesus
March 17 – How can I learn to pray? Matthew 6:1-8
March 24 – What should I pray for? II Chronicles 1:7-13 and Matthew 26:36-44
March 31 – How do I pray when I have been hurt? Luke 23:32-38
April 7 – How do I pray when God seems absent? Job 30:16-20 and Matthew 27:45-46
April 14 – Danny Silvey preaching
April 21 – EASTER – Overcoming the Last Enemy
April 28– “What does God expect from me in prayer?” Nehemiah 6:1-9
I look forward to praying and thinking with you throughout this special season of our faith. See you Sunday!
