Last week I was driving through North Carolina headed home from a conference when I looked to the temperature. On February 7 it was 81 degrees! Only two weeks earlier we had seen temperatures as low as 10 degrees here in the Tri-Cities. Talk about going from sublime to ridiculous! We are accustomed to the changing weather of March and April, but this is January and February. What is going on? Some would tell us it is climate change. Others would say it is only the typical variance that occurs every so many years. I guess it depends on which theories one advocates.
What theories do you advocate when you think about human failure? For some, failure is permanent. Once a person has failed, that person is a failure forever. It strikes me that Jesus had quite a different view. He didn’t see failure as permanent, did he? He saw it as a chance to improve, to do better in the sight of man and God. This Sunday we will think together about how we can “Overcome Failure.” Just remember you won’t be alone. In fact, Jesus believed that every one of us has “sinned and fallen short of the kingdom of God.” So let’s gather as a bunch of forgiven sinners on Sunday to see how we might overcome failure together. My guess is the spirit of Jesus just might show up!
I look forward to seeing you then,
Marvin Cameron
