I am writing these words late on Sunday evening after arriving back from a week away. I miss you on Sunday mornings when I am away but I know you were in great hands with Danny preaching. Each time Danny preaches I hear good and warm comments about his preaching and the content of what he shares from God's truth. Thanks, Danny, for your good words that are the result of intense study and reflection.
I look forward to sharing again with you this Sunday as we gather for the "Blessing of the backpacks." We want to begin the school year with prayer and encouragement for all our students, teachers and administrators. Our church is blessed with a tremendous group of educators. I find it helpful to know that our two most leaders of the Kingsport City Schools, Richard Kitzmiller and Lyle Ailshie, are a part of our fellowship. Numerous other leaders in numerous school districts are a part of First Baptist. Carrie Upshaw of our staff currently gives leadership to the KCS Board of Education. I happen to be married to a teacher so I know first-hand the energy and effort educators expend to help our students to be prepared for a good life of learning.
As we gather on Sunday you will be introduced to our new Preschool Director. I know you will want to meet her. I am looking forward to the tremendous things that are going to occur in our Preschool in the months and years to come.
As we gather on Sunday we are going to think along these lines: "All I Ever Needed to Know I Learned in Sunday School." My guess is you will remember some good days of your own upbringing. Let's gather in God's house to pray for our kids together Sunday morning and again on Sunday afternoon. I look forward to seeing you,
