I had a most unusual Sunday morning experience this week. I helped with Children’s Worship. Mine was only a small part as I was able to try to explain the Lord’s Supper to our kids. The other parts of Children’s Worship are what inspired me. Helen and Cookie did a fantastic job keeping the children engaged and involved in the lesson. They focused on the life of Ruth in the Bible. The music was engaging and caught the kids by storm. The Bible story was “spot on” as it told the story of Ruth, Orpah, Naomi and Boaz. I tried to envision how I might have told that story to a group of K-5th graders and I could not possibly have done it anywhere nearly as well as they did. I wanted you to know just how well our Children’s leaders are doing preparing our kids to understand the truth of God. Well-done.
Sunday afternoon I watched our Facebook Live broadcast so I could see our young people lead in worship. Karli, John Lewis, Emma and Kendall were all outstanding speakers. Our musicians, readers and prayers were splendid in what they did to lead in worship. I was captivated by how the theme of Loving God and Loving People resonated throughout each speech, whether it was specifically mentioned or not. Thanks to all of our young people for their creativity and engagement.
This Sunday we will begin a Lenten series of sermons on the life of Simon Peter. We will follow him from his first encounters with Jesus to the night before Jesus’ death to the resurrection and to Peter’s growing ministry following the resurrection. Many of us see much of ourselves in Simon Peter. I think you will be blessed by our time spent looking at this sinner/saint as we move toward Resurrection Sunday on April 1.
Thanks to all of you for your prayers and thoughts as I have been a bit under the weather. I am getting back to full speed ahead. I look forward to seeing you this Sunday!
