I love every Sunday of the Advent season, don’t you? This past Sunday will be memorable for joyous music provided by our Praise groups, our Ring Praise Handbell Choir and by Sounds of Faith. It will also be memorable for those who gathered for our Service of Remembrance as we looked back to remember those who are now with the Lord. The day closed with a Living Nativity which provided a glimpse of what life might have been like on that wondrous night in Bethlehem.
Sunday was also a special day because we voted to call Helen Kern to be our Minister of Children. Our search committee, led by David Hitch, did a wonderful job vetting candidates and seeking God’s guidance. Helen has been mentored by Robyn Wilson and Cookie Greer. She is prepared to get more education to benefit our church. Most importantly, she loves our children and all children, and wants them to know our Lord. I hope you will be praying for Helen as she begins her new role in January. She will continue to oversee Upward Basketball through February. She and Cookie will work together during those two months. Then in March she will assume complete leadership of our Children’s Ministry.
This Sunday will be a great day as we have four different opportunities to worship. I hope you will take time to join us on Sunday morning and Sunday afternoon. It will be the best possible way to celebrate Christ’s birth with family and friends.
In closing, let me say “thanks” to you for allowing me to experience another Christmas with you. Our Sanctuary is as beautiful as it has ever been! Our Flower Committee has worked tirelessly to insure that. The new tree in the Atrium is spectacular. Be sure to enter the building that way Sunday if you haven’t seen it. The sounds of the season are wonderful. The spirit of our fellowship is good. Thanks for giving me the privilege of working alongside you as we tell the Good News together!
